The address at Köpenicker Straße 154-157 housed a true Berlin original from 1760 to 1890: the Späth nursery. The property contained the Späth family's residence and the headquarters of the world's largest nursery at that time. The location was even included in Berlin travel guides of the era as a tourist attraction. In 1890, the centrally located property was sold for construction purposes. Between 1891 and 1923, several commercial courtyards were built here for a range of different owners. A piano factory found its home here, as did a cigar manufacturer. Today, companies from various industries have settled in the Späth courtyards.

The Property

When the buildings of this GSG courtyard were built in 1888/1889, urban life already prevailed in this district through factories, backyards, military institutions, and villas with blooming gardens towards the River Spree.

Currently, this neighborhood in Berlin-Kreuzberg is booming again: due to the nearby Mediaspree area with major music labels like Universal Music and MTV, this courtyard with yellow brick facades and typical gable roofs for its time of construction is becoming an increasingly popular location for a variety of industries. This courtyard consists of three cross-buildings with a basement (usable as storage), four upper floors, and an attic.
